Welcome to the blog of our English Course in Maredsous
Sunday it’s the first day of our English Course in Maredsous. We’re looking forward to meeting all of our students and to spending an excellent week together! Believe us, it’ll be an incredible adventure. With one clear rule: we talk English always and everywhere!
Are you ready for the start of your week with Ruysschaert? You’ll find all the practical information about the English Course via the personal link you’ve received by email. Just to make sure:
- We expect pupils to arrive between 10h30 and 11h30. On arrival you’ll receive the first practical information. Then you can take your luggage to your room and make yourself at home. If you still have time, feel free to get to know the other participants.
- At noon the director warmly welcomes everybody, parents and pupils, to the opening session, explains the arrangements and calls out the pupils’ names so that they can join their class
- Then comes the official start of the course.
- We start with the midday meal followed by the tests and the first lesson.

Day one: Monday
Between first encounters, inspiring opening speeches and fun icebreaker games, the students are gradually discovering the exciting challenge that lies ahead. The guided tour of the institute left them wide-eyed with wonder, as the abbey glowed in the warm autumn sunshine.
76 brave teenagers have officially stepped into the wonderful world of languages and we have no doubt they’re going to feel right at home!
Thanks to the evening games, strangers quickly became friends, laughter echoed through the halls, and smiles lit up the room. Autumn may be bringing colder days, but with so much excitement, friendship and positive energy, things are already heating up!
Day two: Tuesday
Another exciting day at our English course is over! Everyone is gradually getting used to the rhythm of the course, adapting to the busy schedule and getting more comfortable with each other. The days are intense, but the atmosphere is great!
One of the biggest highlights was the start of the volleyball competition! The teams showed enthusiasm, teamwork, and a strong competitive spirit. It was a fantastic opportunity to have fun and share exciting moments on the court.
Meanwhile, friendships are growing, and new encounters are happening every day. Students are getting to know each other better, sharing stories, and creating connections that will last beyond the course.
In the evening, everyone enjoyed some entertaining word games, practising English in a relaxed and playful way. We also had our very first singing session, bringing everyone together through music and laughter. It was a lovely day, full of new experiences, great energy, and unforgettable memories.
Day three: Wednesday
Tuesday was a day full of competition, energy, and team spirit! The students were full of enthusiasm and motivation, bringing a great atmosphere to every activity. The games’ evening was a special moment that allowed everyone to have fun together and discover a competitive side they might not have known they had. Meanwhile, the volleyball competition was in full swing, with everyone giving their best, supporting their teammates, and enjoying the challenge. The competition will continue tomorrow, so the excitement is far from over!
It is also great to see that the students are becoming more and more comfortable speaking English. They are gaining confidence, communicating more easily, and making real progress every day. Everyone has been very friendly, supportive, and attentive, creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere where students feel comfortable learning, participating, and building new friendships.
Day four: Thursday
Wednesday was a wonderful day, starting with an enthusiastic singing session that filled the room with joy! Despite the gloomy weather, the students’ smiling faces brightened the day. Their English continues to improve, with conversations becoming more and more fluent every day.
In the evening, the free-time games were a competitive success! The Werewolf game was played with great enthusiasm and suspense, eventually turning into an unforgettable karaoke session. What a fantastic way to end the day, full of laughter, music, and shared memories!
Day five: Friday
Today was the last full day of our English course, and what a day it was! Some students started by enjoying a relaxing yoga session before getting ready for the exciting final of the volleyball competition. The atmosphere was amazing, with lots of cheering, teamwork and excitement!
Later in the day, the Werewolf games were a huge success once again. But nobody expected them to end in a hilarious dance battle! Everyone got involved, and the laughter never stopped.
To end the week on a high note, the talent show was a real success! Students shared their talents, played games, won prizes and enjoyed some fantastic performances. There was so much energy, laughter and fun!
