Welcome to the blog of our English Course in Hasselt
Sunday it’s the first day of our English Course in Hasselt. We’re looking forward to meeting all of our students and to spending an excellent week together! Believe us, it’ll be an incredible adventure. With one clear rule: we talk English always and everywhere!
Are you ready for the start of your week with Ruysschaert? You’ll find all the practical information about the English Course via the personal link you’ve received by email. Just to make sure:
- We expect pupils to arrive between 10h30 and 11h30. On arrival you’ll receive the first practical information. Then you can take your luggage to your room and make yourself at home. If you still have time, feel free to get to know the other participants.
- At noon the director warmly welcomes everybody, parents and pupils, to the opening session, explains the arrangements and calls out the pupils’ names so that they can join their class
- Then comes the official start of the course.
- We start with the midday meal followed by the tests and the first lesson.
See you soon!
PS: Are you curious to see how it all plans out on our language course? We post photos and videos on our Facebook & Instagrampage and our blog every day so that we can keep you up-to-date with our activities. We’ll post the first pictures from tomorrow! Follow us @ruysschaertlanguageacademy!
Day one: Sunday
Day 1 = officially a success!
We kicked things off by welcoming both parents and students (yes, everyone survived the introductions 😄). The day was all about getting to know each other—and secretly testing language skills so we can place everyone in the perfect group. No pressure… just a few “friendly” evaluations 😉
After all that brain workout, it was time to switch gears: the evening turned into full-on action mode with sporty activities, lots of laughs, and maybe a little healthy competition.
New faces, new challenges, and already great vibes. If this is just Day 1… we’re in for a fun ride!
Day two: Monday
Day 2 = brains fully activated
The first real lesson day is behind us—and yes, we dove straight into the deep end: grammar, irregular verbs (the real villains of any language), useful expressions, pronunciation… plus a mix of receptive and productive skills to keep everyone on their toes.
As if that wasn’t enough, the competitive spirit officially kicked off with the start of our 3v3 basketball tournament. Who knew language skills could come with so much court drama?
Tea time brought some well-deserved rewards: doughnuts and Easter eggs (fuel for both body and motivation).
And to top it all off: a brand new challenge—Escape Gru’s Laboratory. Let’s just say… not everyone escaped on the first try.
Learning, laughing, competing—Day 2 delivered it all!
Day three: Tuesday
Day 3 = finding the rhythm
We’re officially in the flow now! Students are really making the effort to speak English as much as possible—though let’s be honest… when supervision disappears for a moment, some “mysterious” native language tries to slip back in for some. Don’t give in and keep up the good work!
Today’s highlight? Our second singing session! From John Lennon to Old MacDonald to Taylor Swift—because nothing says language learning like switching from farm animals to pop anthems in one go.
And then… a brand new competition was born: the Ruyschaert Card Game Tournament. A personalised deck for every student, meaning not only fierce battles, but also a pretty cool souvenir to take home (and proof of their strategic genius… or luck 😉).
Step by step, word by word—we’re getting there!
Day four: Wednesday
Day 4 = smiles, songs & a little bit of chaos
Picture day! We captured it all—formal group shots where everyone looked surprisingly serious… and the fun ones where the real personalities came out.
The singing session hit a new high with a powerful “Let it gooooo… Foucauld!” moment (yes, it was as dramatic as it sounds).
Meanwhile, the Ruyschaert Card Game Tournament reached its grand finale. Tension, strategy, and maybe a bit of luck—champions were crowned!
Nature called in the afternoon with some wild frisbee action (emphasis on wild… accuracy optional).
The evening? Completely free to choose your vibe:
Werewolves game for the strategists and storytellers
Fun competitions for the brave
A movie for the chill crew
And for the football fans: Bayern München vs Atlético Madrid on the big screen
Four days in… and still going strong!
Day five: Thursday
Day 5 = finishing strong
Our last full day of lessons, and the focus was real: debates, vocabulary building, listening exercises… brains working at full capacity as everyone pushed to get the most out of it.
On the court, the 3v3 basketball competition reached its grand finale. Big congratulations to Group 1 for taking the win—well played!
During the longer breaks, the Werewolves game made a strong comeback, proving once again that trust is fragile and suspicion spreads fast.
To close the day, we had “Ruysschaert’s Got Talent.” A smaller group of brave participants, but no shortage of fun—quizzes, activities, and plenty of entertainment to wrap things up in style.
One more day to go… but what a journey it’s been already.
